Blessed by dry and unusually cool weather for late June, The Gantzers and their relatives gathered from the east coast to the west coast in bright, sunny Kentucky!
From Riva, Maryland to Roseville, California they came....by car and plane... beginning early the preceding Monday...thru Saturday afternoon...just in time for the delicious BBQ buffet!
Some early participants joined Jerry and Leslie for a day of swimming, fishing, and sightseeing on their rental houseboat. Others took advantage of the rental pontoon boats and sea-doos available before, during, and after the official reunion!
Group festivities began Friday evening with a dinner for Dan and Laura celebrating their recent engagement, followed by a family gathering at Jerry/Les' cabin. It was especially nice to have Brian join us this year!
Saturday opened with a continental breakfast for leisurely dining (and awakenings) at the Marina's newly remodeled Yacht Club (well...OK....remodeling was still in process, but the restrooms WERE working!).
Displays of a pictorial tribute to Elnor, along with various family genealogical material were available. Also offered was a "Family Treasure Hunt" quiz/game to promote more interest and understanding of our family....for oficial answers, click on button------->
The BBQ luncheon was enjoyed by all, as attested to by the empty containers later in the afternoon. Eating inside or outside on the deck, or both, provided ample opportunity for renewing family connections.
Later, we reviewed the "Family Treasure Hunt" as a group, and while no one got them all correct, Kathy's Team and Bob did exceptionally well! Sydney then led the family in a challenging "hula hoop" game that tested the flexibility and agility of all. (The 'paper plate' game of 2001 has been temporarily replaced)!
Todd performed "above and beyond the call" as he skippered the pontoon boat throughout the afternoon with differing groups of family boaters and swimmers. Dan and Laura also provided rides on their sea-doo to the delight of kids of all ages!
A very late dinner was enjoyed by all at the Lake Cumberland State Park, followed by a feeding of the local critters (raccoons). Darkness brought us back to Don's cabin at the Resort, and those who remained were treated to a mini-concert by Chris on his guitar!
Sunday brought a smaller group breakfast in Jamestown, as several family members had already begun to depart. Others took advantage of the resort pool and playground, made plans to visit scenic attractions, such as Mammoth Cave, do some more pontoon boatin',and simply visit with each other!
The 2003 Family Reunion was a success, and all are looking forward to the 2005 Reunion!
